Are you ready for that quick trip weekend get away? If not, here are my tips that make getting out the door in 30 minutes seem like a breeze. Now you'll always be ready to go!
Earlier today on my FB “sponsored” feed I saw a link for a chain of hotels: “Last minute deals – pack your bags – it’s time for a weekend getaway!’ If you clicked on the link, and only had 30 minutes to prepare and leave for the airport. Could you be ready? Of course you could!
You already have your standing packing list (as discussed from my last blog post) for longer-term trips, so some items won’t apply. But, some of the personal and essential items (like toiletries) WILL apply. Everything is in writing so you won’t have to stress.
Once you have all the toiletries, clothing is next. All of these items are on my standing packing list and I just cross them off right away if they don’t apply to this particular trip, which makes life so much easier.
I try to make it make it as simple as possible by packing mostly black (or black under-toned) clothing items. Everything coordinates together and wrinkles don’t show as easily.
I like to bring a pair of simple back boots that are comfortable to walk in all day but can be dressed up with a pair of black tights when I throw on a dress if I end up going out at night. I also use scarves to add a pop of color. The scarves are handy to also dress up an outfit.
To simplify even more, you can wear one of the scarves on the plane to double-duty as a shawl.
I am also obsessed with simple black layer t-shirts and pants. They are super thin so don’t create bulk yet retain heat for chilly days or nights. They can also double as pjs. For example, I discovered the 32 Degree brand at Costco a few years back and love packing them, both on long and short-term trips.
Wearing heavy items like a coat on the plane can save the room in your carry on, as well. I usually wear a long, black-lined raincoat since it seems to be cooler and there always seems to be a chance of rain just about everywhere this time of year. It is black and simple so it's suitable for dressy occasions but also pairs well with jeans. I also make sure to pack a small, colorful umbrella – hey, you have to mix up all that black clothing somehow!
On top of that, I pack a small, simple black purse that can function as an evening bag. You, also, might need a small purse if you visit museums or galleries so I like to pack one just in case.
For short and long term trips, I always pack a little black dress! This might sound cliché but nine times out of ten, I wear it because I have it and always feel a little nicer when I do.
With all of these tips, you are set to go! Swipe on some mascara, lip-gloss, and blush and you are prepared to have a fabulous weekend getaway!
